Cradled inside the mountain ranges in the Nar-Narayan, using the spendid Neelkanth peak because the enchanting backdrop, is situated the holiest of all of the Hindu pilgrimages, Badrinath. Alongside the left financial institution of river Alaknanda, the place is called badrinath as it was once carpeted with 'badris' or wild berries

When River Ganges was requested to descend to earth to help the suffering humanity, the earth was also feeblw to bear the power of tis descent. Hence the mighty river was split into twelve channels, one of them getting Alaknanda, which later became the abode of Lord Vishnu or Badrinath.

The current temple was developed about two centuries back with the kings of Garhwal. The principal idol within the temple is of black stone and represents Vishnu seated in a meditative pose, and flanked by Nara-Narayan. Badrinath can also be known as Vishal Badri and is among the Panch Badris.
